Important Notice: New 748 Area Code and Dialing Changes
A new 748 area code is being added to the region currently served by the 970 area code. This will not change your existing phone number, but it will change how you place local calls.
What’s changing for you
• Local calls that you can dial with 7 digits today will require 10‑digit dialing (area code + phone number).
• Both 970 and 748 numbers will be treated the same for calling and billing.
• What is a local call now will remain a local call.
• Long‑distance calls will still require dialing 1 + area code + phone number.
• You can still dial three‑digit codes like 911, 988, 211, 311, 411, 511, 611, 711, and 811 as you do today.
What you should do
Please make sure any equipment or services that place calls are set up for **10‑digit dialing** and recognize the new 748 area code, including:
- Stored contacts in wireless and cordless phones
- PBXs and business phone systems
- Alarm and security systems, gates, and safety systems
- Medical alert devices and monitoring systems
- Fax machines, speed dialers, call forwarding, and voicemail services
Also review your websites, printed materials, checks, and ID tags to ensure phone numbers include the area code.
